The day's second large tuna arrived aboard American Angler October 30, when skipper Brian Kiyohara docked the rig at Pt. Loma Sportfishing after a ten-day Sport Chalet trip with 27 anglers.

"We saw decent sign of tuna," said Brian, "and we saw a few cows."

In his log Monday, October 29, Kiyohara wrote: "These fall trips offer all different types of fishing opportunities. This trip we had fast action on mid-grade yellowfin tuna 18-60lbs and we crossed paths with the cows as well.

"We were able to catch 4 fish that were well over one hundred pounds and we saw plenty of those blow out which is very encouraging for trips to come. There was also wahoo fishing to be had - some of our code boats had the classic style stop and go fishing around some high spots, but our wahoo action was centralized around finding the right kelp.

"There is also good sign of flats around both kelps and in the open water. We finished up our surface fishing yesterday on the beach catching yellowtail on the anchor."

The big fish was a 180-pounder caught by Robert Clark of San Diego.

"My best fish on 60-pound," said Robert. "My hat's off to the crew, who helped me around the boat for an hour. He bit at dusk, the last biter of the day."

Clark said he fished a sardine on a 4/0 ringed Super Mutu hook tied to 60-pound Izorline. He used 80-pound Power Pro Spectra bacdking on a Penn GLD 30 and a Penn GS765 L rod.

Bill Randle was close behind Clark, with a 160-pound tuna, good for second place. Fred McNulty of Escondido won third place for a 116-pound tuna.
