The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will hold two regional clinics on hunting upland game, through the Advanced Hunter Education Program, Sat. Sept. 23.

The day-long clinics, one in northern California and the other in Southern California, will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are in conjunction with Quail Unlimited and Wilderness Unlimited. The cost for the clinic will be $40.

The Southern California clinic will be at the High Desert Hunt Club near Gorman, just an hour north of Los Angeles. In northern California, the clinic is at the Wilderness Unlimited property in Williams, an hour north of Sacramento. Instruction will focus on quail, chukar, and pheasant hunting regulations, hunting on public lands, and proper firearms and ammunition.

Instructors will talk about proper clothing, habits and habitats of the birds, hunting alone vs. hunting with others, hunting with or without a dog, dog demonstrations, and field first aid for hunters and dogs. They will also discuss hunter responsibilities and ethics, game care and cooking. Participants must be at least 10 years old.

Organizers will fill registration on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited. Once registered, participants will receive a packet of information that will include a map to the facility, an agenda, and a list of items to bring.
