Report Date:
http://norcal.fishreports.com: Fishing remained pretty good at Shaver Lake. Dick Nichols, of Dick's Fishing Charters reported that his boat has been catching near 2 limits of mostly kokanee this past week. "The kokanee bite is picking up resulting in about a 8 to 2 average kokanee over trout. But the trout bite should pick up with a new plant by DF&W this week", Nichols said. The Point is his first area hit in the early morning , then a trip to the Black Rock area for the remainder of the morning. Most of the fish Nichols have caught have been in the 44 to 47 foot deep range on the down riggers, with Koke Busters, tipped with corn behind a Captain Jack's C.J. Dodger. The side poles have had equal success with Trout Busters behind Mountain Flashers at about 20 feet deep. He has experienced the kokanee bite to be on both the down riggers and side poles about equal. Captain Jack Yandell, of Captain Jack's tackle hooked up with friend Chris Hanson and his grandson Jimmy, both of Fresno, for a good stringer of fish which included two trophy trout. Captain Jack was using a Ring A Ding spinner behind a C.J. Dodger on the down riggers. With the new DF&W plant shore fishermen should realize a better bite, especially around Sierra Marina and roads 1 and 2. Trout dough bait or crawlers works best.
