Both smallmouth and largemouth are very active right now. Smaller lures such as crappie jigs and split-tail power minnows have been working the best from shore accessible areas and off Cachuma Bay point. Deep cranks and spinnerbaits continue to consistently bring in bass along the rock walls from Johnson Bay to Clark Canyon. There really isn’t a bad spot for catfish right now as fisghermen have hooked up on three pounders all the way from the dam to the mouth of Santa Cruz Bay. Nightcrawlers and stink baits are still the best way from the dam to the mouth of Santa Cruz Bay. Nightcrawlers and stink baits are still the best way to get them. The crappie and bluegill have been biting more in the late afternoon. Dropping jigs on partially exposed tree stumps and branches has been much more effective than trolling around the east end of the lake like in seasons passed. White and chartreuse are essential colors for lures.

Catfish topped the charts this week with quite a few limits caught. Primarily smaller cats in the 1lb range but the bite was consistent enough to allow for atlist 30 fish days for some fishermen. Drake Cove and Mohawk Bay prove to be the go-to shore spots while Johnson and Cachuma Bay held plenty of sizeable fish for boaters. Garlic soaked mackerel was by far the best bait used. The bass continues to favor crank baits and nightcrawlers in the......
