THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISH REPORT - THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND MORE

The full moon and ever changing water temperatures are taking it's toll on the catching from Cabo and the current fishing results reflect just under 50% success for the billfish. High billfish boat for the week was the "Gvaiota VIII", skippered by Captain Juan Dominguez, reflecting 5 stripers for 5 days fished, Overall counts reflected 22 stripers, (16 released) 3 dorado, 22 sierra and 51 yellowfin tuna, (school sized fish, 20 lb. ranges).

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny and pleasant, temps from 58 nights to 82 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Daily temp changes make the fishing very difficult, especially when combined with the full moon conditions. Best
water temps were out to the southwest of Cabo Falso about 20 miles or so, at 71 degrees. Golden Gate was holding at 69 and Cabo to Gorda Banks fluctuated at 68-69, but streaky.

Best fishing area: Continued to be at the Golden Gate Bank, but patience was the key to the catching, with the billfish being taken on live bait, either slow trolled or fishing deep and on the drift.

Live Bait Supply: Very good mackerel supply and a fair mix of caballitos.

THE MAZATLAN FISH REPORT - THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET

Continues to be difficult catching throughout the area and anglers' best bet is probably inshore fishing in the cooler waters for a variety of bottom fish. The area is certainly in the off season doldrums as the water temps change by the day and seem to be falling. Overall offshore catches for 35 days fished produced 3 stripers, 2 mako sharks and 37 yellowfin tuna. The inshore super pangas reporting in for 15 days fished reflected 70 vaquetas, 44 cochitos, 71 loras, 5 pargo, 4 corvina and 1 torro.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly Sunny, but cold mornings as temps dipped to 45 degrees at night and climbed to 83 for the daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Mostly calm with light breezes, temps from 66-67 inshore and rising to 70-71 offshore

Best fishing area: None! The tuna are running with the porpoise when you can find them.

Best Lure/Bait: The billfish were taken on rigged baits and the tuna were taken on tuna feathers of varied colors

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISH REPORT - THE INDEPENDENT FLEET

A very difficult fishing week at Zihuatanejo, as the red tide and greenish colored water has taken over and moved the blue water to 30-plus miles offshore. Adding to the dilemma for the anglers and skippers is the on-coming full moon. Captain Chiro reported schools of jack cravelle, (yellowtail jacks) out to 10 miles, with chulas and bonitos mixed in with the schools, which is considerably out of the ordinary, as those fish are typically close, inshore species. There are still occasional yellowfin tuna sightings, but the fish are unwilling to bite. The sailfish bite, which had just started to take off, has dwindled and the marlin ac tivity has been limited to a few small stripers.

I/Z Climate: Mostly picture perfect; 71 nights to 87 daytime highs, light tropical breezes.

Sea Conditions: Calm waters but streaky currents and temps that ranged from 73 inshore, (very cold for this area) to 76 at 28-30 miles and changing to 79 along and outside the thousand fathom curve.
