http://www.virginialakesresort.comBoth the fishing and weather have had a huge turn around in the last 3 days at Virginia Lakes.
Big Virginia is still 80% iced over, but there are people fishing the inlet and outlets with worms, power bait and salmon eggs and they have had fairly good success.
Little Virginia had an epic day on the 31st with 35-50 fish for some anglers doing catch and release. Rod Lee of Fresno caught a 4lb 2oz on an OR (old reliable) fly, and his friend Gavin Hajikawa of San Gabriel (see photo), caught a 3lb 9oz rainbow and a beautiful Hoefer brown trout both on OR. The entire group from these areas did very well and spent most of the day on the water. The temperature of the water is more agreeable than last week, and it shows from the amount of tubes that launched today (17).
There is still quite a bit of snow on the ground in and around the trees, and on the south side of Little Virginia.
Blue Lake is ice free and producing some nice brook trout on a variety of lures and worms. The most consistent bait for the week has been Captain America extra scent power bait, and worms coming in second.

This should improve shortly, and get the fish off their butts to hit the red/gold Bouyants, and they are coming out with a fury.?? Vince Moronez of Azusa took a......

This past week started out with a bang, but the wind drove everyone inside to seek shelter and hot chocolate. The bears have been very active as their internal clocks are telling them it's time to eat heavy and fast as sleep is approaching. The baby bear has been sitting on my railing (2x4) eating bird food, so that tells you that there is very little for them to eat during these last days of the season. ......
