EAST WALKER RIVER
The East is running at about 363 cfs right now, this flow tends to make it a bit more difficult to fish and wade but there are still some anglers doing pretty well down there. Of course the main objective with a flow like this is to add enough weight to your rig to get it down to the bottom where the fish are hanging out. Larger weights and larger indicators are going to be what it takes. If you can get your flies down to the bottom and get a good drift you should be able to have some success. The Nevada side, both private and public, have been still doing well with this higher flow also. Nymphing is still the number one way to go with streamer fishing coming second.
Recommended Flies:
Rubberlegs, rainbow warrior, silver streak, micro stone, poxyback stone, Darth baetis, pheasant tail, dark lord, radiation baetis, prince nymphs, san juan worm, zebra midge, top secret midge, flashback emerger, sculpzilla, peanut envy, dali lama, zuddler, double bunny, dead drift crayfish.
SCEIRINE RANCH
The ranch still fished pretty well this week in spite of the higher flows. Most of the anglers this week reported 8 to 10 fish per day with some of them taping around 20 inches. This flow makes it harder to get these fish to the net as it gives them so much more power but it’s still doable! San Juan worms and Pat’s rubberlegs seemed to be the best flies on the ranch this week.
HUNEWILL POND
The pond is still hanging in there pretty well with about a 50/50 split with some anglers getting into 6 to 12 fish per half day while others have not done so well with 0 to 3 fish for the same time periods. The successful anglers are still getting fish on dries and dry/droppers and a few on leeches. The weeds haven’t been too much of a problem in most areas of the pond but of course as the weather warms up the weeds will keep growing.
BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR
Bridgeport is still kicking out some very nice fish, some up to 5+ pounds, both trolling and bait fishing. The numbers arent huge lately but the quality is pretty good. The trolling has been best with Rapalas, crawlers and speedy shiners while the bait angling has been best with inflated crawlers, pinched crawlers and powerbait. Anglers fishing from boats are doing the best but there are still some fish being caught from the shore down near the dam. We havent talked to any fly anglers from the reservoir lately but stripping streamers either down near the dam or out from the marina should produce some fish.
KIRMAN LAKE
Didn’t get any reports from Kirman yet, if we hear anything we’ll let you know.
TWIN LAKES
The Twins had some mixed reports this week with some anglers getting into some nice fish while others struggled. The anglers who did get into some fish seemed to do the best on bait, pinched crawlers, powerbait and inflated crawlers. There were some fish caught trolling with Thomas Bouyants and Rapalas. The numbers were not high but there were some good fish in the 3 to 5 pound range caught. Fishing near the inlets and off some of the points along the shore seemed to be the most productive.
WEST WALKER RIVER
We didn’t get any reports from the West yesterday but we did hear that it’s running very high and dirty, the snow is melting pretty fast up above so it’s in full run-off mode right now.
VIRGINIA LAKES
The Virginias are still fishing well through the ice, there’s lots of holes drilled up there so it shouldn’t be too tough to get to the water even if you don’t have an auger. It did snow a little more up high this week but not enough to close the road or keep you from getting up there. Night crawlers, power eggs and jigging spoons have all been good techniques.

UPDATE: After about 3 1/2 days of the tackle shop being closed we were able to get it back open on Wednesday morning! All is good right now and the tackle side of the store is structurally safe. The gift shop portion of the shop is still closed right now, we’re waiting for a structural engineer to come (hopefully early this week) to engineer a plan for a temporary shoring of the front of the building. After this gets done they will move on to engineering a permanent fix. Really not sure how long it will take for the gift shop portion to get re-opened but hopefully not too long. Many thanks again for all your positive thoughts and for keeping us in mind!
