The black and blue marlin bite has picked up considerably this past week with many boats having an opportunity at the trophy fish, trolling live mackerel or bonito in the down riggers. Lots of sailfish showing and jumping, but resisting the bite and frustrating the crews. The largest fish for the week was a 240 lb. blue marlin, taken aboard the sportfisher, "Gringo Loco", while trolling a live bait deep. The inshore fishing has remained good for jack cravelle, sierra and bonito but still, lacking roosterfish.

I-Z Climate: Sunny, clear and warm days and nights, temps from 72 nights to 89 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Mostly calm with some westerly tropical breezes, temps from 77-80 inshore and rising to 82 offshore. While the temps are warm enough, the water is green out to about 10 miles and goes from green to a greenish-blue out from there, which is obviously having an overall effect on the sailfish bite.

Best Fishing Area: The offshore fishing starts at about 10 miles and farther offshore, into the cleaner, bluer waters.

Best bait/lure: Definitely, live bonito or mackerel are working best for the billfish in the offshore waters. Inshore, the jacks are biting well on live bait and top-water plugs, such as pencil poppers. and the sierra are biting well on smaller, shiny lures and smaller feathers.
