Mazatlan was looking much better this week when compared to the doldrums of Cabo, but still the fishing is not up to par for this area either. The offshore fishing, which is typically difficult during March, is producing a 50% chance for a billfish in the offshore areas and the inshore super-panga catches are still offering plenty of action for the anglers. Overall offshore catches reported for 25 days reflected 13 stripers, 8 dorado, 1 yellowfin tuna and 1 mako shark. Inshore action for 11 super panga fishing days reflected 1 striper, 1 mako shark, 14 Vaquetas, 64 pargo, 4 barracuda, 79 roncachos, 10 mojarres, 29 cochitos and 225 loras. All except the barracuda are bottom fish.

Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days with a mix of sunshine, temps from 55 nights to 84 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Generally, calm throughout the area with light surface breezes, temps at 73 inshore and rising to 76 offshore.

Best Fishing Area: Out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid, starting at about 20 miles.

Best Lure/Bait: Slow trolled rigged baits were best for the billfish.
