There should still be some trout hanging around at Agate Lake. Anglers should take advantage of this opportunity as trout are not typically stocked in Agate Lake and the reservoir is dropping.
Agate Lake is at 88 percent capacity. Conditions are relatively good out here, but clarity is still a bit off. Water temperatures are good for warmwater fishing. Boat ramp and day-use facilities here are open and managed by Jackson County Parks. There is a 10mph speed limit on this reservoir. Lovely views of snow-covered Mt. McLaughlin Agate a nice and easy destination for anglers and wildlife viewers this time of year.
Agate Lake has a good population of black crappie and introduced yellow perch, as well as brown bullhead.
Applegate Reservoir received its first stocking of 10,000 legal and 500 “pounder” rainbow trout last week. The reservoir has more water than last year, but is still on the low side. Bait is allowed and 5 trout per day, year-round, on the streams above Applegate Dam and the lake itself. French Gulch and Copper boat ramps are both usable, but just gravel and earthen ramps at these water levels. The concessionaire that operates Hart-Tish does not plan on opening until Memorial Day.
The reservoir is 66 percent full with an elevation of 1,959.9 ft. Surface temperatures are in the high 50s/low 60s. Anglers can get the latest information by calling the US Army Corps Lost Creek Lake and Applegate Reservoir projects information line at 1-800-472-2434.
