Hyatt lake was recently stocked with 5,000 legal rainbow trout. Due to low reservoir levels, this is the only planned stocking for this spring. Folks have indeed been doing a bit better fishing out here according to recent reports. A nice 17-inch trout was caught and released last week.
Drift boats can still be launched from the bank at any number of the pullouts on the main road between Howard and Hyatt (west bank). No improved boat ramps are usable, but some folks are launching from the west bank near the dam. With water going down due to irrigation withdrawal, the edges of the lake are getting mushy, so be very cautious when driving close. Tow trucks are not cheap up this way. The BLM campgrounds are open and reservations can be made a Recreation.gov. The Hyatt Lake Resort and restaurant are also open. The reservoir is 23 percent full.
There is a Hwy 66 and Hyatt Lake Rd webcam that may help you if you are planning an adventure up here. Also, ODOT trip check is worth looking at.
