UMPQUA RIVER, MAINSTEM:
Bass and shad fishing have been going great. Anglers are catching both throughout the main and the weather is going to be perfect for the weekend.
Anglers also seem to be doing well at catching some rockfish and other marine species in the Winchester Bay area.
Trout fishing will reopen May 22.
UMPQUA RIVER, NORTH:
According to the USFS and BLM it appears access to the river has been restored. Please take caution and inquire with them about camp and ramp openings.
Steelhead fishing is in the shoulder season. Summer steelhead are yet to arrive and winters are on their way out. There are likely still some early summers around.
Anglers have been trying their luck at catching some spring Chinook, and they are catching a few. Most anglers are bobber fishing with eggs, shrimp or a combo. Remember to adhere to the anti-snagging rule in effect above Lone Rock Boat Ramp.
Some of the North Umpqua and tributaries are open for trout (those above Slide Creek Dam). These areas may be tough to access during the winter months. Check the fishing regulations to see which areas are open and bag limits.
Note that as of Oct 1, fishing in the fly water area is restricted to the use of a single, barbless, artificial fly.
