Lower flows this week on the Truckee River.
Flows came down right after I wrote my last post. They’ve been hovering right under 200 cfs here in the Hirsch. They’re a bit higher through Farad, and unfortunately pretty low in Reno. We all knew if was coming. The only silver lining, nothing’s coming out of Boca. At least we’ll have some water this fall.
Smokes been bad this week. Really bad in Reno. Truckee is pretty empty. The smoke and the new round of Covid is keeping a lot of people away. Seems like we went from July to November. At least it’s not 90 degrees anymore.
The fishing’s going to be, and is really good right now. Flows are low, and you can get in and fish just about anything. Think smaller. Dry droppers, smaller streamers, etc. We do get low flows in the fall every few years.
Remember, I have a tight line clinic in September. Call if you’d like to join.
If you want the ultimate challenge, come out on a carp trip with me. It’s super fun and will test your angling skills like no other. It’s all sight fishing in just a few feet of water. A 15 lb carp will tax your shit like nothing else.
