Fishing remained fair for Hart Park anglers, but don’t let that discourage you. With the right tactics winter anglers can land the fish of a lifetime. Anglers often use jigs, Senkos, crankbaits, and swimbaits to fool monster bass during the winter months. Jigs and Senkos frequently fool cold water trophy bass when they are worked very slow to “dead stick” in deeper water. Deep diving crankbaits are also reliable big bass baits, and they work best when making contact with the bottom and rock or wood structure. Persistent big swimbait anglers also get rewarded in the wintertime. Catfish will eat just about anything that smells. Be sure to try chicken liver, dip bait, cut baits, and fresh shrimp soaked on the bottom with a Carolina rig. Panfish bite year-round, so be sure to garb some live worms and a bobber, and small live minnows are a favorite snack for both crappie and bass.
