The Legend Passes On
The southern California sportfishing fleet is mourning the passing of the man that is responsible for making it what is is today- Captain Bill Poole. Bill will be fondly remember by thousands of people that he touched. Many of the top sportfishing captains today owe their success to Bill Poole. Bill was the first guest on Let's Talk Hook-up in September 1991 and at the end of the show he told Pete Gray "kid, you got something here". From that moment on, Pete knew that pursuing his dream was the right choice thanks to the nod from such an icon. On the program Saturday morning Captain Art Taylor called from Guadalupe Island to tell our listeners that he will put a banner on the stern of his boat- the Searcher when he comes back next week to honor Bill Poole. The banner will bring back the original name of the boat- Cape Polaris, the name Bill gave the boat many years ago.

Offshore fishing continues to be very good for albacore, yellowfin and yellowtail. The bite at the rock pile south of the Coronado Islands has been excellent for yellowtail to 30 pounds.

This Sunday morning from 7am to 9am Pete Gray and Rock Cod Rick will be in the XX studio with Gary Graham from Baja on the Fly and WON. Gary has been in the fishing game for decades, and has some great stories about southern California and baja fishing on conventional and fly tackle.
