The Lower Deschutes has been fishing well. It is closed from the Dam to the Northern boundary of the Warm Springs reservation until April 22. There is still lots of open water if you drive to Maupin and fish up to the locked gate. Nymphing remains hot and stoneflies should be high on the list with the upcoming hatch. Around mid April they will be a big staple in trouts diets down there as they will end up in the drift more trying to migrate towards the shores. Aside from stoneflies, jig leeches, two-bits, and nitro caddis have been some recent favorites. Swinging a sculpin, leech, or crayfish streamer around is always a fun way to get some eats.
