EAST WALKER RIVER
The flows on the river are still at around 550 cfs today, we’ve still been getting some good reports from down there but we’ve also talked to quite a few anglers who are just not willing to fish it at this high of a flow. The anglers who are fishing it are still having to search out some of the softer water where it’s easier to get good drifts in, most of the success we’ve heard about has come with streamers though there has been some good reports on nymphs and even 1 or 2 good reports of some caddis action late in the evening. Some patterns to consider: sculpzilla, dead drift crayfish, razor craw, creek leech, hornberg, perdigon, buckskin caddis, fox’s poopah, e/c caddis and elk hair caddis.
SCEIRINE RANCH
We didn’t get any reports back from the ranch this week but as soon as we do we’ll pass the information along.
HUNEWILL POND
The pond is still fishing very well with most reports coming in with anywhere from 3-5 fish to “ that was the best day I ever had”!! Lots of action still on damsel nymphs, as well as adult damsels, leech patterns, buggers, soft hackles and even some hopper dropper rigs. The ranch hands have been mowing the weeds weekly this season so there isn’t much problem with the weeds. The cooler nighttime temperatures we’ve been getting and some overcast days have been keeping the water temps down as well. If you want to book some time on the pond give us a call.
BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR
The Reservoir is still fishing excellent with most all the anglers we have spoken to having really good days out there. Most of the action is up in the Robinson and Buckeye Creek channels with a couple reports coming in from the East Walker channel. We’ve had some very good fly fishing reports as well with anglers both stripping streamers and hanging balanced leeches and nymphs from indicators. Bait anglers are using power bait, pinched crawlers, inflated crawlers and mice tails and we’ve even had a few reports of anglers doing well casting Rapalas and Thomas Bouyants up and down the channels.
KIRMAN LAKE
We didn’t hear anything from Kirman this week, I think that with the cooler nighttime temps we’ve been getting the fishing up there should be picking up. If I was going to make the trip I’d be packing some leech patterns, soft hackles and scud patterns.
TWIN LAKES
The Twins are also still fishing well, though we didn’t see any double digit fish this week we dis see lots of 3 to 6 pounders coming from up there. The trout and kokanee are still pretty active on the troll and there are still lots of trout being caught from the shore as well as still fishing from boats, tubes and kayaks. Baits to try include mice tails, power bait and crawlers, for lures try Rapalas, Thomas Bouyants and Kastmasters. Fly anglers can go with Twin Lakes Specials, wooly buggers, matukas, soft hackles, zug bugs and pheasant tails.
WEST WALKER RIVER
The flows on the West are still fluctuating between 600 and 800 cfs and though we’ve had a few decent reports it is still pretty difficult to fish. There’s lots of water still coming off the mountain from snow melt and we’ve had some thunder showers this week that have muddied up the water for short periods of time as well. If you’re going to give it a try in spite of the higher flows, by all means be careful, it’s a very powerful river and you don’t want to be caught off guard. Lure anglers can try some slightly larger Panther Martins, Vibrax spinners and Thomas Bouyants while bait anglers can go with salmon eggs, power eggs and crawlers.
VIRGINIA LAKES
The Virginias are still holding their own with lots of nice fish being brought in with bait, lures and flies. Fly anglers are reporting some success with Twin Lakes Specials, matukas, mini leeches, soft hackles and pheasant tails. Lure anglers are having success with Thomas Bouyants, Panther Martins, Hook Up Baits and Sierra Slammers. Bait anglers are using power bait, mice tails and pinched crawlers.
