Cutthroat trout are scattered throughout the river. The best time to catch cutthroat is in the evening or early morning as they move to the head of pools to feed. As water temperatures climb in the main river, anglers willing to do a little rugged exploring should try fishing higher in the watershed or some of the larger tributaries to find cutthroat.
A few anglers are trolling the bay for salmon. The regulations for the salmon in the Chetco River and mainstem until Sept. 1 are zone regulations. Starting Sept.1, the wild Chinook bag limit is reduced to 1 adult per day and 5 for the period. Anglers should always check for updated regulations prior to fishing.
