THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET
While lots of tourists visited the Los Cabos areas during the Easter
Week, the numbers of charter fishing days was unusually slow and
seemed to reflect the slowness of the billfish counts and the overall
fishing throughout the Cabo area. Quite a few billfish did show up
along the Palmilla ridge, but not only didn't bite but disappeared
the next day, suggesting that the fish are moving through the area
and in their transit mode. The overall fish counts for a combined 13
fished days reflected 2 stripers released, 3 dorado, 3 mako shark, 1
jack cravelle, 2 cabrilla, 28 Sierra and 16 yellowfin tuna.
Cabo Climate: The weather is superb, sunny and clear skies with
temps from 63 nights to 89 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: The warmer and better water conditions wrap around
Cabo like a horseshoe with temps a little cooler on the Pacific side
at 75 and slowly rising to 77 at the Gorda Banks, with most of the
offshore areas providing very clean and favorable water conditions.
Mostly light surface breezes from the north to northwest.
Best Fishing Area: None reported
Best Lure/Bait: Both of the billfish were taken on live bait.
Live Bait Supply: Remained very good with a mix of mackerel and
caballitos.
