Local guide Kevin Brock fished most of the past week despite the stormy conditions. "We only missed one day due to the weather", observed Brock. "Trout fishing in the Sacramento River between Redding and Anderson is just fantastic right now; releasing 20 to 40 trout per day has been easy almost every day. The average size has also increased since last year, with most being quality fish in the 16 to 22-inch range, and the largest on any given day usually being over five pounds.
"We are getting our trout by side-drifting with glo-bugs, crickets, and nightcrawlers. Some anglers are doing well backtrolling with silver-color size 50 Luhr Jensen Hotshots. Remember that all hooks must be barbless in this part of the river. The incredible bite should keep going until the really hot weather sets in."
Brock tipped, "Over on the Feather River, the striped bass are still biting like crazy. Lots of stripers up to 10 pounds are biting on swimbaits, trolled plugs, cut baits, and pretty much everything. Best area has been from Shanghai Bend to the Highway 99 Bridge, and should keep going strong for another week or two."
