Along with a surge of yellowfin tuna this past week it appears that the billfish have finally settled in the area and are probably being attracted by the tuna and dorado availability. The "Aries IV" & "Aries IX" had a couple of terrific fishing days for their anglers and the IV reported a blue marlin, a sailfish & 4 yellowfin tuna for a single day and the IX reported a blue marlin, sailfish & 6 dorado for single fishing day. The blue marlin are smaller fish in the 200-250 lb. ranges, but we know of a couple of others were lost in the bigger sizes. The overall fish counts for 18 offshore fishing days reflected 2 blue marlin, 5 sailfish, 34 dorado and 62 yellowfin tuna, (10-30 lb. fish) for the offshore waters and 8 inshore super panga fishing days that reflected 36 dorado, 4 roosterfish and 3 jack crevalle. All-in-all, it was a very good fishing week, especially in the offshore waters and we expect more good action to continue.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy days with temps that ranged from 75 nights to 85 daytime highs and an occasional P.M. shower. The area is a little humid but not uncomfortable.

Sea Conditions: Perfect water temps and color throughout the area and holding stable at 87-88 degrees. Light & variable surface breezes at 5-10 mph, very little swell

Best Fishing Area: Starting at about 20 miles offshore and out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid, and outbound from there for the billfish. The dorado still biting well at the shark buoys.

Best Lure/Bait: The billfish biting well on the rigged baits. Dorado doing well with the smaller live baits and artificials, including the deep diving types, especially in the sardine colors.

Bait Supply: Continues to be very good for Mazatlan with fresh caught rigging baits and live bait being readily available everyday.
