The Let's Talk Hookup/Shimano charter aboard the Qualifier 105 was next to arrive at Pt. Loma Sportfishing August 3. The three-day trip was chartermastered by Patrick Gee of Gee Outdoors, with 30 anglers. They spent their time paddy fishing.

The jackpot had two ties; a new one to dock reporter Bill Roecker. Mark Gallagher of Mission Viejo caught a 29-pound dorado on a sardine and a 2/0 Gorilla hook to get half of first place. He said he used 20-pound P-Line on a Trinidad 14 reel and a Seeker Black Steel 196 rod.

Sean Dowsing of San Diego dunked a Salas 6X jig in blue and white to get the other half of first, with a 29-pound yellowtail. He used 30-pound Big Game line, a Shimano 65000 reel and a Seeker Black Steel 6470 rod.

Eleven-year-old Seth Nishiyama of Chehalis, WA won second place for a 27.8-pound yellowtail. Seth goes to Lewis County Adventist School.

The final split began with Rick Morlas of Camarillo, who got a 26.6-pound yellow, and was tied by Steve Roberts of Eden, UT, who had an identical yellowtail.
