The kokanee bite has slowed but not completely at Shaver Lake. After providing anglers with months of great fishing, the kokanee seem more interested in spawning. There are day's that the bite is better, but most are regulated to a limit per boat. Of course there is always an exception for those who found the right depth and tackle.
The trout bite is fantastic! Trollers can expect multiple limits at about 20 feet deep in the island, Black Rock and Eagle Point areas. We have caught mostly three limits a day for weeks. Of course I continue to use Trout Busters, tipped with corn and crawler behind weighted Mountain Flashers at 20 feet deep. Others are using a combination of crawler/blade tackle. I have been fishing the Point near dawn for kokanee and then move east to the island mid morning. I think everyone is connecting with the trout. DF&W has provided a generous plant all season.
Bank fishermen are scoring in the roads 1 and 2 area. One angler told me that he had caught 7 nice trout from road 1 this week on Power Bait. Small mouth bass are schooled up near rock formations and can be had with panther Martin spinners or crickets.
SCE recently announced that Shaver will be lowered at what is believed to be a 15% drop from the lakes current 62% capacity. Most likely shortly after Labor Day, the lake will begin a rapid decline to about 47% capacity. Not a problem for the fish population but boaters could face difficulty in launching. However that is unknown at the time. Shaver Marina has notified it's season space renters that they must leave their marina space shortly following the Labor Day weekend.
