http://www.sportfishingreport.comThe Punta Colonet region down the Baja coast continues to produce red hot fishing for quality 18-35 lb yellowtail for the San Diego based boats fishing the areas bank. The Eclipse, fishing out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego, with Captain Adam at the helm have been on the bite for weeks and have already decked over 750 quality fork tails for their lucky passengers to start the 2015 season. I recently fished a 1 ?? day trip on the Eclipse with Captain Adam and the yellowtail put on quite the show with 28 anglers hooking and boating 125 quality 18-35 lb fish for our days effort.
The weather was flat calm and winds still as we motored up to the first spot of the day. Captain Adam found us a school and it wasn't long before we started hooking fish. Heavy jigs fished yo-yo style produced the majority of the early hookups, while a sardine fished dropped loop style was also getting bit. Mark from Bait Wraps was on board and passed out one of their sweet jigs to everybody on board and they resulted in many a hook up. When the fish came to the surface and started boiling all around the boat in a summer style frenzy it was time to fly-line a sardine or fling the surface iron. I was able to hook and land three yellows in a row on a fly-lined sardine and a 2/0 hook and the boat landed over 70 yellowtail before the fish sank back down. We got on a couple more schools in the morning than picked off a few more throughout the day to bring our trip total to 125 fish. Throw in a chance at some quality rockfish and jumbo Colonet lings and you end the day with a February trip for the ages.
Captain Adam and his fine crew are top notch and Eclipse takes pride in offering a top notch fishing experience. The Eclipse has several upcoming trips leaving out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego targeting yellowtail down the coast off of Punta Colonet. The first trip departs on 3/6 at 7pm and returns on 3/8 at 6am, the second departs on 3/13 at 7 pm and returns on 3/15 at 6am.
