Limits on top of limits of trout and bass were caught all week. Another 40001b rainbow trout plant took place on the 1st and contained many 6+ pounders. Young angler Daniel Hittner of Los Alamos was able to bring in the biggest trout since the derby weighing in at 8.5Ibs on a bass lure in between Sweetwater Bay and the dam line. Hot lures this week included rooster tails, kastmasters, mice tails, and super dupers even made a strong comeback along with virtually every scent of powerbait. The bass and catfish hit the best along Jack Rabbit flats in the AM off pumpkin plastics and blackiyellow panther martins. The crappie made a decent showing for fishermen dropping mealworms and jigs on top of the tree stumps from the Flats all the way back towards Santa Cruz Bay. Water Temperature: 68 Degrees

The trout is still going off with stringers averaging about 8 lbs. Despite the warm water temperature, flat lining Rapalas of every color and pattern are working best for trollers. Chartreuse dough bait, chrome kastmasters, and worms are the best bet for shore fishermen around the marina area. The bass have also been hitting trolling kures on the grassy flat just west of Lil Cachuma. Pearl white and green pumpkin plastics fished in the 8-15ft range off of the flats......

The annual fishing derby, open to all species this year, brought anglers of all ages to the lake in hopes of catching the largest fish. Supplemented by 6000lbs of rainbow trout, limits were caught left and right. Chrome and gold colored Kastmasters, bronze/black Rapalas, 3in. trout, worms, mice tails, and trout dough from chartreuse to red/white/blue were the popular trout baits thiw week.
