The Lower Deschutes continues to fish well. Flows have remained fairly consistent around 4000 CFS and the fish are happy. Big bugs are starting to wrap up and are making their way to the final stretches of river below the dam. Caddis are taking their place in many sections of the river and fish are keying into them. Nymphing during non hatch times has been effective with a variety of small mayfly and caddis nymphs including two-bits, hares ears, durcells, nitro caddis, and perdigones. Utilizing tungsten nymphs or adding a bit of split shot to your rig is smart to make sure you are getting down nice and deep.
