Quite a few boats are trolling the lower estuary for fall Chinook. Anglers are catching a few early fish, but the bulk of the run is still weeks away. The Chetco is known for some large fish, so anglers will want to make sure their gear and line is in good shape. The ocean is closed to salmon, so anglers will want to mindful of not trolling into the ocean from the bay. Starting Sept. 1, the wild Chinook bag limit is 1 adult per day and 5 for the period. Anglers should always check for updated regulations prior to fishing.
