Hatchery coho are returning to the North Fork Nehalem and fishing has been fair. Some fish are getting dark but there are still plenty of bright fish coming in and opportunity to catch them. Oct 23 was the last day of wild coho retention on the North Coast and NO retention of wild coho is allowed for the remainder of the year.
The North Fork is blown out today but should be dropping back into shape by the weekend.
The first hatchery winter steelhead returned to the trap at Nehalem hatchery this week. It's early and numbers will be very low, but there's a chance.
The North Fork Nehalem gets low numbers of Chinook salmon and that run is winding down, but there may still be a little opportunity to catch a Chinook before the end of the season on Nov. 30. The bag limit for wild adult Chinook is 1/day and 5 for the season from July 1 to Nov. 30. See the regulation updates for more details.
