http://www.fishingvideos.comBilly Santiago Jr. skippered the annual Queen of Hearts charter that returned to Fisherman's Landing August 4 after five days at sea. Bob and Sherry Ingles were the chartermasters, and they posed with the first place winner.
Sonny "Hollywood" Cruz of Morgan Hill took first place on the trip, for a handsome 46.6-pound white seabass. He said he got it on a sardine and a two-ounce slider sinker. He fished with a Mustad 94150 hook, 40-pound Izorline XXX, an Accurate 665 H reel and a seven-foot Loomis rod.
"He came right out of the middle of a yellowtail bite," said Sonny. "He shook his head, made a run, and it was over; he didn't have the yellowtail fight in him. It's my first white seabass."
"We had great offshore fishing," remarked skipper Santiago. "We had daily limits on the first day, of yellowtail and dorado. The island was good; we got five whites there and nine halibut. Most of our yellows there came on bait, with 40-pound line and 4/0 hooks."
Sherry Ingles won second place, for a 35.8-pound yellow she said she "?Ķyanked out of the kelp." Austin Hall, 17, of Altadena, was third. The trip produced an excellent yellowtail catch, with five white seabass, nine halibut and near-limits of dorado.
