Look for warmer tempatures to thaw out the East Walker and for the fishing to pick up in coming weeks. Mason Valley Wildlife Area opens the 2nd Saturday of February. This includes Hinkson Slough and the Cooling Ponds.

**It is "fly fishing only" there all winter now. Fish the transition where the lake and stream meet about 8/10th of a mile above the lower bridge. Fish will be staging there to head up the stream to spawn this winter. Look for some Baetis (BWO) #18 mayfly and small midge hatches. Cast anything wet that is a size #10/12 green/olive to working fish. Indicator fishing with very small (#18) nymphs on 6x tippet is very popular there now.......
