http://norcal.fishreports.comShaver Lake continues on a controlled drop. The lake is dropping will continue until the lakes capacity is about 47%. But right now, it is hard to keep the trout off your hook. Dick Nichols, of Dick's Fishing Charters says his clients have had as many as 4 limits in the boat this week including WWII veteran and Purple Heart recipient Lonnie Cook of Clovis. Mr. Cook was fishing with his son Leroy and great grandson, Austin Freeland, both of Clovis, with Nichols and picked up 4 limits of mixed trout and kokanee, tossing one limit. Nichols says most days it is hard to keep the crawlers on his Trout Buster spinners. The kokanee bite is slowing with many of the fish spawning. The trout are running about 13 inches and are in great shape. An occasional 2 to 2.5 pounder is caught on some of the trips.
Other boat fishermen seem to be doing fine using some type of crawler/blade combination. Nichols says most anywhere in the lake you will find trout. Most are holding at about 20 feet deep. He has had good success in front of the dam, the island and Eagle point. Bank fishermen are having fair to good luck catching planter sized rainbows . Roads 1 and 2, the dam and near Sierra Marina have been productive with Power Bait being the go to bait. With the lakes water going down, the Shaver Marina had to move to deeper water and has closed for the season. Sierra Marina is open and continues to do business on a regular basis at the County ramp on the north end of the lake. Boats can be rented now and possibly through next weekend. The county ramp still has a concrete auxiliary ramp which can be used when the water recedes below the regular ramp. Check the web at sierramarina.com for an up to the minute view of the ramp and lake. Dick Nichols (559) 841-3317
