Shaver Lake has to be one of the hottest trout fisheries at the moment. It is a normal practice to pick up limits within a very short time. Dick Nichols, of Dick's Fishing Charters said that his clients have caught as much as 4 limits a day in a very short time. You can thank the heavy plants by DF&W for the large amount of fish. Nichols says that many of the fish are yearlings and some from the fingerling plant 4 years ago. Many of his fish are 13 to 15 inches. "It's hard to keep crawlers on the hook as these fish hit so hard and often. It is a lot of fun for everyone on the boat", Nichols said. Nichols got good news this week as he will be able to keep his boat in the lake and continue his charters through September 27th thanks to Sierra Marina. The marina also plans to be open for boat rental and supplies through the 27th. The trout are holding at about 20 feet deep and hit crawler/blade combinations best.

The kokanee bite is little if any. Bank fishermen are doing good if they are in the right spot. Crawlers or Power Bait is doing the job around roads 1 and 2.
