East and Paulina Lake have both been fishing well. Leeches, two-bits, dark and light assassins, and chironomids all picked up fish in 6-12’ of water. East and Paulina both have callibaetis hatches but despite the close proximity to each other, you’ll have better luck in that regard on east as it seems to be more prolific of a hatch. Stripping larger brown or gold baitfish patterns to imitate tui chubs is a good way to target larger class brown trout in these lakes. Ants, beetles and hoppers are also fun this time of year in the Newberry Crater and make excellent flies for hanging a nymph or two below. Better to hit hosmer early AM or last few hours of the day as it is a very popular sightseeing lake and just like Crane Prairie, the water temps are high. It's important to keep these fish safe when it’s hot like this by fishing it at the right time, right spots, and keeping your fish in the water for a clean release.
