The Upper Deschutes has been fishing well. Nymphing is your best bet for targeting some fish and it helps to get your flies down deep using split shot or tungsten bead flies. Focus your efforts on the deeper pools, downed timber, and undercut banks, especially since it’s been nice and warm lately. Dry-dropper setups are also very fun on the upper and hoppers , clarks stones, and chubbys will all work well floating a nymph down below. Streamers are never a bad idea on the Upper for targeting some larger aggressive fish, a great move for those browns from Tenino and downstream. And good news, boat ramps are back open after the Wickiup Fire.
