Half full or half empty at 49% capacity, Shaver Lake is kicking out good numbers of trout, says fishing guide Dick Nichols of Dick's Fishing Charters. Trollers are not having a problem in launching at the Sierra Marina ramp. The water line is just above the end of the main ramp. With beautiful weather again this week, trollers were picking up mostly limits of rainbows using spinner/crawler combinations behind weighted flasher's at about 20 feet deep. Some trollers are connecting with down riggers at 30 feet. The surface water temperature dropped some this past week which could move the fish slightly up the water column. Nichols likes the island, Black Rock and Eagle point as the better locations for trollers.
Bank fishermen have been targeting the dam, and roads one and two areas with Power Bait or crawlers. Reports have a few connecting with trophy sized trout.
Southern California Edison came through again for boaters with a 50 foot addition to the Edison Camp ramp near the Shaver Lake Marina. Pouring of the ramp was scheduled for last Saturday. This should be a big benefit to all who launch a boat and take the pressure off the Sierra ramp, Nichols said.
